Campo General Ávalos

This area is near the city of Monte Caseros, in Corrientes Province. It is part of a large piece of land used by the Argentine Army. It covers about 47,000 hectares and keeps the native nature of the Espinal region, where almost all the local animals can still be found. There are very few invasive species.

The land is used for army production, like growing trees, citrus fruits, and rice. There are also 34,215 hectares of natural grasslands with cattle, and this activity has been shown to be compatible with wildlife conservation.

The protected area is called RND Campo General Ávalos. It includes the entire riverfront along the Uruguay and Miriñay Rivers, with nearby forests. It also has sandy areas where the Bonpland palm (Butia noblickii) grows — a species that only exists in Corrientes. There are also small streams that flow into the Uruguay River. This protected area covers 7,346 hectares.
