History of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish
In 1859, the town’s neighbors built a small church on the spot where the parish stands today. Before that, there wasn’t a permanent church, but priests came from Curuzú Cuatiá to celebrate Mass, perform weddings, and baptisms. The first parish priest was Jerónimo Ibargallartu, who arrived on February 18, 1859.
In 1872, Father Esteban Solari became the priest and led the construction of the current church. A group of neighbors, led by Santiago Solari, helped with the project.
In 1874, Bishop Gelabert y Crespo from Paraná made the first official visit. The current church was completed in 1875.
In 1880, the bishop returned and suggested building a sacristy, which was done immediately.
Over the years, important features like the pulpit and main altar were added. In 1911, the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was founded.
Father Juan Perelló is one of the most remembered priests. He was born in Spain in 1870 and served in several cities. He arrived in Monte Caseros in 1923 and remained there until his death in 1948. He is remembered for his good example and strong faith.
In 1948, Father Demetrio Atamañuk became the parish priest. He helped bring the church’s activities to the neighborhoods and rural areas, reaching more people in the entire department.
